La Rosière
La Rosière is found in the Haute Tarantaise valley and makes up part of the Espace San Bernardo, linking La Rosière in France with La Tuille in Italy.
La Rosière is as yet fairly unknown to British holiday-makers, but it is a rare gem and a great resort for skiers and boarders of all standards. It is very popular with families as they have good ski-schools, lots of day care for your kids, and plenty of wide sweeping gentle slopes. However, don’t let that put you off if you are looking for more of a challenge, because La Rosière can guarantee you this too. You can zig-zag all day from France to Italy, through steep black runs down into a Tuille, as well as the famous Petit Saint Bernard’s Pass and the Ruitor glacier on the Italian side. There ia also a patrolled off piste zone making it more accessible to different levels as well as limiting dangers of the backcountry. For the freestylers there is a well maintained park to keep you spinning and sliding all week.
The proximity to the Italian boarder means this is also a great resort if you are interested in going heli-skiing, which is otherwise illegal in France. And, if you’re looking for something even more extreme, La Rosière is also one of the few resorts offering a ski-school for Snow-Kiting (a little known sport which basically translates as skiing with a parachute on your back).
The resort itself is traditional French and has plenty of great restaurants and good little bars to go to. It is split into two different areas, L'Averne and Le Centre, there’s about a 15 minute walk between the two. There is also a free and direct shuttle service between the two villages.
