Risoul is found in La Foret Blanche ski area in the southern French Alps, linked to the resort of Vars. If you are looking for a high altitude resort, but trying to keep things low cost, than Risoul is the perfect option. This is partly because it is still relatively unknown in British snowsports’ circles, but it is fast becoming a very viable alternative to the popular Tarentaise resorts. The resort itself is north facing; this together with the altitude gives it the killer combination of a formidable snow record and sunny climes.
The Foret Blanche ski area has a vast range of pistes ranging from high altitude cruising blues and reds, to challenging blacks and big mogul fields, as well as plenty of wide off-piste forested areas as you head back into the village. A thriving local freestyle scene means that Risoul has a great snowpark and, in mid-season, one of the largest pipes to be found in Europe – a great place for both seasoned snowriders and keen park-beginners.
Risoul has a traditional French feeling to it and is usefully purpose-built so all of our accommodation has direct access to the slopes and facilities. It’s also relatively compact so you’re never far from the bars or restaurants either.
